The Israeli military carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon today, saying it targeted Hezbollah sites. A military spokesperson said the Israel Defence Forces, IDF, struck several Hezbollah terrorists in the area of Sidon in southern Lebanon.
According to Israeli and Lebanese sources, the two sides held talks on Friday, as part of a security dialogue, focusing on Hezbollah’s disarmament and the return of residents to their homes in Lebanon’s southern border villages.
The meeting, under US coordination, took place in the town of Naqoura in southwest Lebanon, near Israel’s northern border. Israeli Deputy Director for Foreign Policy at the National Security Council, Yosef Dreznin, represented Israel in the talks, while Lebanon’s former ambassador to the United States, Simon Karam, led the Lebanese delegation.
Israel’s military said it struck a compound used by Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force for weapons training, claiming the facilities were being used to plan attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from Beirut described the ceasefire in Lebanon as “a one-sided truce, since Israel has continued near-daily attacks on the country.”
Khodr said the latest attacks avoided densely populated areas. “The locations were in hills and valleys, not population centres,” she said, noting this marked a repeated pattern.
“In fact, just a few days ago, in the middle of the night, they did the same thing.”
