Senior Iranian leader Kamal Kharrazi has passed away after succumbing to injuries sustained in an attack earlier this week. Kharrazi was injured in a strike targeting his residence in Tehran. His wife had also lost her life in the same attack earlier.
A prominent figure in Iran’s political establishment, Kharrazi served as the country’s Foreign Minister from 1997 to 2005. He also held key positions following the Islamic Revolution and was a member of the Expediency Discernment Council.
He was heading the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, an advisory body that provides guidance on foreign policy and reports directly to Iran’s supreme leadership under Ali Khamenei.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, where several senior Iranian officials and military commanders have been killed since the conflict began on February 28.
