Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Khalilur Rahman in Beijing, with both sides pledging to deepen coordination in trade and infrastructure.

Wang Yi said in a statement that China’s relations with Bangladesh and other South Asian countries are not directed against any third party nor should they be influenced by any third party.

Wang Yi said that China was prepared to align the high-quality Belt and Road Initiative with Bangladesh’s national development strategy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said in a social media post that Beijing described China and Bangladesh as good neighbours and good partners.

It said, China supports the new Bangladeshi government in maintaining unity and stability, revitalising and developing the economy, and improving people’s wellbeing.
