US strikes Iranian military site in Bandar Abbas amid fragile ceasefire.

The United States military has carried out fresh strikes on an Iranian military site in Bandar Abbas, a strategic port city in southern Iran near the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command confirmed its forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones it said posed a threat around the strait, before targeting the Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas as it was preparing to launch a fifth drone.

Iranian media reported explosions to the east of the city, though Iranian authorities said the strikes caused no damage or casualties. The latest U.S. military strikes occurred overnight on Wednesday, May 27, into Thursday, May 28, 2026, following earlier defensive U.S. strikes on Monday, May 25, that targeted missile launch sites and vessels suspected of laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz

Central Command described its actions as “measured, purely defensive, and intended to maintain the ceasefire” – a characterisation Tehran has strongly disputed.

The strikes are the latest in a series of military exchanges that have strained a fragile ceasefire between the two countries, even as negotiations continue to end a three-month war that has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and driven up global energy prices.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said Iran is “negotiating on fumes”, insisting his war strategy would not be influenced by November’s midterm elections.
