The G7 leaders have adopted a series of declarations focusing on global stability, security cooperation, and efforts to counter transnational organised crime. In their statement, the leaders welcomed the deal between the United States and Iran under US President Donald Trump.
The leaders described the deal as an opportunity to reduce regional tensions and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. They also emphasised the importance of safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz and supported steps to strengthen regional security.
In another declaration, the G7 pledged to intensify action against drug trafficking, describing it as a growing threat to national security, public health, and economic stability.
Partner countries Brazil and South Korea also backed the initiative. The leaders noted that drug networks are increasingly sophisticated and operate across borders, driving corruption, violence, and illicit financial flows.
To address this, they agreed on a coordinated, evidence-based approach targeting both supply and demand, with a strong focus on strengthening port and maritime security.
They also proposed a G7 plus Ports Network to enhance intelligence sharing and disrupt trafficking routes, alongside deeper cooperation with international agencies such as INTERPOL and UNODC, and a stronger focus on tracing and recovering illicit financial assets.
The G7 also reaffirmed its commitment to counter migrant smuggling networks, calling them a serious transnational crime that endangers vulnerable people and undermines border security.
The leaders stressed the need to dismantle organised criminal groups through stronger international cooperation, targeting not only their operational networks but also their online and financial systems.
They further called for closer coordination with countries of origin and transit to prevent irregular migration and disrupt smuggling routes at their source.
