Yemen said its forces carried out 20 strikes against Houthi targets in Taiz province over a three-hour period.
The Military spokesperson for Yemen’s internationally recognised government today said the strikes targeted Houthi movements, personnel, vehicles, and military equipment in the province.
The escalation follows Saudi Arabia’s announcement that the Iran-backed armed group – Houthis had attacked a power distribution station in Medina yesterday, which supplies electricity to the Prophet’s Mosque.
The latest violence marks a significant escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned Houthis, following a UN-brokered truce that largely halted cross-border attacks in 2022.
The renewed fighting has already displaced tens of thousands of people and could alter the balance of control in Yemen, with broader implications for maritime security, Red Sea shipping routes, and the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
