The United States is gearing up for its midterm elections today, with voters set to decide which party will control Congress and shape the political future of President Donald Trump’s administration.
The elections will determine whether Trump’s Republican Party retains control of Congress or the opposition Democrats gain ground, potentially affecting the president’s ability to push forward his legislative agenda.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives will be contested, along with 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate. Of the 35 Senate seats up for grabs, Democrats currently hold 13, while Republicans hold 22.
To secure a majority in the Senate, Democrats need to reach the 51-seat mark. Voting will take place across all 50 states, with polling stations opening between 6 am and 8 am local time, depending on the time zone.
The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, along with the state of the American economy, is expected to remain among the key issues influencing voters as they head to the polls.
