India. LS Speaker Om Birla to represent India during swearing-in of new govt in Bangladesh.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, including other Foreign dignitaries, will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bangladesh tomorrow, led by Tarique Rahman following his party’s landslide victory in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said Birla will represent the Government of India at the ceremony, describing his participation as a reflection of the deep friendship between the two countries and reaffirming India’s commitment to shared democratic values. The ministry also welcomed Bangladesh’s transition to an elected government under Rahman’s leadership.

According to officials, newly elected Members of Parliament will take oath at 10:00 am at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, administered by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

Later in the afternoon, President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the new cabinet at the South Plaza of the Parliament complex – a departure from the traditional venue, Bangabhaban.

After the MPs are sworn in, the majority party will elect its parliamentary leader, who will formally stake claim to form the government before the President. The President will first administer an oath to the Prime Minister, followed by ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers.

The Election Commission has published the gazette for 297 seats, with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party securing 209 seats and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami emerging as the main opposition with 68 seats.

Authorities have tightened security and announced traffic restrictions around the parliament area, as large crowds and international guests are expected for the ceremony.
