Indian Himalayan Region Climate Change Conclave Concludes in Imphal.

The two days long Indian Himalayan Region Climate Change Conclave held in Imphal concluded today.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla graced the valedictory function which was organised by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur.

The conclave brought together around 400 participants including State Government representatives from 12 Himalayan States, independent researchers and experts, line departments and agencies, members of the scientific community, private sector leaders, NGOs, civil society organisations and academic institutions. 

The Manipur Governor also inspected the exhibitions and stalls set up as part of the conclave and appreciated the innovative initiative and community led efforts showcased there. He also released five different books and inaugurated the State Environment and Climate Data Centre virtually as well.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhalla emphasised that the impact of climate change is being felt acutely in Manipur.

He said that the State is increasingly experiencing erratic weather patterns with last year recording unprecedented heat with Jiribam reaching 43 degree celsius and rainfall becoming highly unpredictable.

He said that the updated State Action Plan on Climate Change (Version 2) of Manipur needs to translate into real action.
