Red Alert Issued in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry as Low Pressure Brings Heavy Rains.

The Regional Meteorological Department has said that widespread rains are likely in Tamilnadu and Puducherry due to low pressures in the Bay of Bengal.

According to Dr. B. Amudha, Addl Director General of the Met department, a well marked low pressure area is lying 400 kms away from Chennai in the Southwest Bay of Bengal.

It is likely to turn into a deep depression over Southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal off North Tamilnadu and South Andhra Coasts by afternoon of tomorrow.

It is likely to continue to move west north westwards towards North Tamilnadu Puducherry Karaikal and South Andhra Pradesh Coasts and intensify further during subsequent 24 hours.

Due to the prevailing situation, a red alert signifying heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for two days in some areas in Chennai and suburban areas, Ramanathapuram, Pudukottai and six delta districts.

Alert for heavy rains has also been issued to Kanchipuram and six other Southern districts. Fishermen have been alerted to return to the Coast immediately.
