Severe thunderstorms hit southwest California, USA, today, bringing heavy rains, flash floods, and debris flow risks across the region.

The U.S. National Weather Service issued storm warnings for Los Angeles County and nearby areas. Officials warned of possible debris flows in wildfire burn zones, including the Palisades and Malibu regions.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said an evacuation alert was in place from yesterday night until tomorrow morning for areas affected by the Palisades, Hurst, and Sunset fires.

Mayor Karen Bass said city crews were closely monitoring the situation and ready to respond to emergencies. She urged residents to stay alert, avoid flooded roads, and watch for debris flows in hillside neighbourhood

The agency warned of a high risk of debris flows over recent wildfire burn scars, and issued flash flood warnings for the Palisades burn scar area and Malibu regions.

Due to a forecasted storm, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson Margaret Stewart said in a news release on Monday that an evacuation alert had been issued from 10 p.m. that night until 6 a.m. on Wednesday for areas affected by the Palisades, Hurst and Sunset fires.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said on X that city crews continue to monitor the forecast very closely and are prepared to respond to any emergencies. She urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid flooded roads, and be cautious of potential debris flows in hillside communities.
