Tamil Nadu assembly election results. TVK set to emerge as single largest party.

Actor turned politician Vijay’s led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is all set to create history in Tamil Nadu assembly election, by emerging as the single largest party. TVK has won 85 seats and is leading on 22 seats out of 234 constituencies across the State.

In an intense three-cornered battle in the State, 172 results have been declared while trends are available from other 62 seats. According to the Election Commission, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by Chief Minister MK Stalin has won 41 seats and is leading on 18 seats, while its rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has won 32 seats and is leading at 15 seats.

PMK is leading on two seats and it has won two seats. Indian National Congress (INC) is ahead on two seats, and it has won three seats. BJP, DMDK, CPI, and AMMKMNKZ bagged one seat each. CPI(M) and IUML bagged two seats each. VCK has got one seat and is leading on one. 

Among the key candidates, the sitting Chief Minister MK Stalin, contesting from Kolathur constituency, his home turf in Chennai, lost to TVK candidate V S BABU by a margin of around eight thousand seven hundred votes. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency in Chennai defeated his opponent Selvam. D from TVK by around 7100 votes.

TVK chief Vijay has won from Perambur constituency beating DMK opponent RD Shekar by a margin of over 53 thousand votes, while he is maintaining a comfortable lead in Tiruchy East, reinforcing the party’s impressive debut in the Assembly elections. In Tiruchi East, Vijay is leading by a margin of over 26 thousand votes over his DMK rival Inigo Irudhayaraj.

The BJP candidate and Union Minister of State Dr L Murgan, lost to his opponent Kamali.S of TVK by a margin of around 15 thousand votes from Avinashi Reserved constituency in Tirupur district. The former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who recently joined DMK, is  leading by margin of around six thousand votes from Bodinayakanur constituency.
