The Lebanese Army has said that nine people, including three military personnel, were killed on Saturday in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, just days after Israel and Lebanon agreed to a new ceasefire.
According to the army, one Israeli airstrike hit the road linking the city of Nabatiyeh and the town of Marjayoun, killing a brigadier general, a captain, and another soldier. In a separate strike on the village of Saksakiyah, six civilians were killed and four others were injured.
The Israeli military has not immediately commented on the attack that killed the Lebanese soldiers.
In a statement, the Lebanese Army accused Israel of undermining efforts to restore stability, implement a comprehensive ceasefire, and secure Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory.
The latest ceasefire agreement was reached through US-mediated negotiations between Israel and the Lebanese government. However, Hezbollah has rejected the arrangement.
