China’s Foreign Minister holds talks with Abbas Araghchi amid mounting pressure on Iran to open Strait of Hormuz.

The Foreign Ministers of China’s Wang Yi and Iran’s Abbas Araghchi today held talks in Beijing amid mounting pressure on Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz for international shipping and reach a deal with the US to end the war.

Chinese official media reports that Wang and Araghchi met to discuss the prevailing situation arising from the US blockade of Iranian ports to force Tehran to lift its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Argachi’s visit comes in the immediate backdrop of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s announcement yesterday that major US military operations against Iran are over.

“We believe that a comprehensive ceasefire brooks no delay, a resumption of hostilities is inadvisable, and persisting with negotiations is particularly important,” Wang told Araghchi at the start of their meeting, according to footage released by Hong Kong-based Phoenix TV
