Israel Attacks Hezbollah Targets in Beirut.

The Israeli military today announced that it launched strike on Lebanese capital targeting infrastructure of Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah.

Smoke could be seen rising over the capital city Beirut. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were in response to Hezbollah attacks in northern Israel.

When Israel last struck the Beirut suburbs a week ago, Iran responded with strikes on Israel. Tehran, which is Hezbollah’s main backer, has insisted that any US-Iran ceasefire deal must also include an end to Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

The strikes risked disrupting negotiations that are nearing a critical stage, with Israel’s government already expressing dissatisfaction over the terms being discussed. A similar Israeli attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs last week triggered the most severe escalation between Iran and Israel since a fragile ceasefire came into effect on April 7.
