Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump hold telephone conversation.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation yesterday, according to the Kremlin. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said President Putin congratulated President Trump on the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Independence Day.

During the conversation, President Putin briefed President Trump on what the Kremlin described as the battlefield situation in Ukraine.

Ushakov said Russian forces were advancing along the line of contact and claimed that some European countries had an inaccurate understanding of developments on the ground.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and agreed on the importance of maintaining regular communication on military, political and economic issues.

According to the Kremlin, President Trump said an early resolution of the Ukraine conflict would help create conditions for broader cooperation between the two countries.

Ushakov also accused Ukraine and its European allies of seeking to prolong the conflict and referred to recent Ukrainian long-range strikes on Russian targets.
