Tensions have flared once again in West Asia after United States strikes radar and drone control sites in Iran after Tehran shot down an American MQ-1 Predator drone this weekend. Iran acknowledged launching a retaliatory strike, while Kuwait said it was intercepting incoming drone and missile fire.
The United States Central Command (CENTOM) has said that it carried out self-defence strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones in Southern Iran over the weekend. The strikes targeted facilities in Goruk and Qeshm Island.
The military action was conducted in response to the reported shootdown of a US MQ-1 drone that was operating over international waters. Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its air defence units shot down the US drone after it allegedly entered Iranian territorial airspace.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Army today announced that its air defences were confronting hostile missile and drone attacks. It has been advised to people to adhere to security and safety instructions.
The recent attacks reflect the fragility of a ceasefire in the Iran war. Tensions continued to escalate as Israel extends its occupation of Lebanon beyond the Litani River.
