Thousands demonstrate in Paris as protests spread across Europe.

The ‘Gen Z regelt’ movement in Germany (‘Gen Z’s got this’) saw thousands march in Cologne. Organizers said that more than 180,000 had signed up online to rally across Germany, primarily demanding investments in Education and Housing.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters demonstrated across France and parts of Europe during a third consecutive weekend of youth-led and union-backed rallies.

  • Turnout. France’s interior ministry estimated nationwide participation at 320,000 people, with about 70,000 marching in Paris, while student and youth coalitions put numbers higher.
  • Core Grievances: Demonstrations centered on the soaring cost of living, widening economic inequalities, deteriorating public services, and poor conditions in schools and state-run student housing.

  • Clashes and Security. While many marches—some featuring Halloween costumes—started peacefully, clashes later erupted in cities like Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Toulouse. Riot police deployed tear gas, baton charges, and water cannons after groups of masked rioters hurled projectiles, set fire to street furniture, and targeted security forces.

  • Upcoming Action. Student unions have announced plans for further high school and university blockades ahead of a broader day of action called by trade unions on November 5, 2026.

Spread Across Europe

Germany. Young protesters rallied in multiple cities, including Cologne, where police used water cannon to disperse crowds protesting living costs, education cuts, and military conscription plans.

Spain. Regional police in Barcelona remained on high alert following previous unrest.

Italy. Rallies and heightened security alerts were reported in cities such as Milan, Turin, and Bologna.
