Russian officials have said that overnight Ukrainian drone strikes sparked fires at several oil facilities in Russia.
Officials in Russia’s Rostov region said that falling drone debris caused a fire, damaging an oil depot and a tanker at the port city of Taganrog. In the neighbouring Krasnodar region, authorities reported that debris from another drone attack ignited a fire at an oil depot in Armavir.
Referring to the attack in the Krasnodar region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a social media post, noted that the city is located approximately 500 kilometres from Ukraine’s border, adding that they are rightfully bringing the war back to where it came from.
The most economically damaging blow was delivered in the Saratov region, where Ukrainian strike assets successfully bypassed local electronic warfare shields to strike the Saratov Oil Refinery (NFP).
Operating as one of the most critical energy processing hubs in the Volga River region, the Rosneft-owned plant is a primary producer of high-grade gasoline, diesel fuel, and specialized petroleum products for the Russian domestic market.
