US President Trump defends Russian diesel deal amid criticism.

Facing criticism over the diesel deal with Russia, US President Donald Trump defended a deal to release Russian diesel into global markets, saying it is intended to ease high fuel prices and is not meant for the United States.

Trump said last Friday that Russia will supply more than 3 lakh tons of diesel, followed by 5 lakh tons in November and 1 million tons thereafter.

The US Treasury Department issued a temporary license easing sanctions on Russian diesel shipments until April 7, 2027.

US President Donald Trump defended a diesel deal with Russia, stating it aims to stabilise the global market hit by high prices.

The deal, announced on October 9, involves Russia supplying over 300,000 tons of diesel, with more to follow in November and “immediately thereafter”.

The US Treasury Department issued a temporary licence easing sanctions on Russian diesel shipments to global markets until April 7, 2027.

Bipartisan US senators criticised the deal on Tuesday, calling it a “gift to our adversary” that finances Russia’s war machine and betrays allies.

Senators argued the deal offers negligible impact on US fuel prices but provides significant revenue for the Kremlin’s war efforts and security cooperation with China, Iran, and North Korea.
