US President Donald Trump has said that he does not think the Iran war will end until after November’s midterm elections, adding that oil prices will not come down until then.
Trump said yesterday that he thinks the war is going to end immediately after the election, while offering no evidence for his claim that Iran is trying to influence the vote.
He also said that ending the conflict quickly could come at the cost of higher fuel prices but argued it was necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Tehran has repeatedly denied seeking nuclear weapons. The seven-month war has pushed oil prices higher and hurt Trump’s approval ratings, increasing pressure from Republicans to end the conflict. Oil topped 100 us dollar a barrel yesterday for the first time since July.
The November third midterm elections could determine control of Congress, with Republicans facing the risk of losing their majorities.
